Jimmy Brown
Commission Chairman
Jimmy Brown was born and raised in Ware County. He is a 1964 graduate of the Ware County School System. Chairman Brown and his wife, Fern, are the parents of three sons, Jimmy Jr., Dell and Sean, and one daughter, Hope. They have nine grandchildren.
Chairman Brown is a retired Ware County employee. He started his career as a rookie Firefighter on March 7, 1968 and earned the promotion to Fire Captain in 1971. In 1973, the Ware County Board of Commissioners appointed him to Ware County Fire Chief. Chairman Brown completed forty years of service on March 7, 2008. In addition to Fire Chief, the Ware County Commission appointed him as Airport Manager in January 1990, where he served until his retirement.
Chairman Brown was very active throughout his career in other organizations such as, the International Association of Fire Chiefs, the National Fire Protection Association, the Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs, the Georgia State Fireman's Association, the Georgia Rural Fire Defense Council, and the Georgia Airports Association. He is also a member of the Waycross Exchange Club, where he once served as president and on the Board of Directors. He is a member of the Waycross Area Blood Drive Volunteers, and is an active member of the Project Promise Group working to help senior citizens.
Throughout his career, Chairman Brown has received numerous recognitions. Among these recognitions are the Exchange Club Outstanding Service Award, the Erin W. Johnson Trophy, the Exchangite of the Year Award, and the Kiwanis Club A.G. Miller Medal. He received congressional recognition by Congressman Jack Kingston and Safety Fire Commissioner John Oxendine appointed him an Honorary State Fire Marshal. President George W. Bush, Senator Saxby Chambliss and Governor Sonny Perdue recognized him for his many years of dedicated service to the citizens of Ware County.
Chairman Brown and his wife are members of New Life Assembly of God Church inBlackshear, Georgia.
