Job Title

Civil Engineer

Position Summary

This position is responsible for performing professional tasks at the managerial level by supervising and overseeing the land development functions of the department. Manages the administration and enforcement of County, State and Federal codes and regulations. Work involves management of the plan review process, and the performance of all inspections for infrastructure and land development in the County. Provides general oversight of Facilities Maintenance division.

Typical Duties

Performs administrative tasks for the department; reviews and provides input regarding rezoning applications; approves final plats for conformance with construction standards; performs interpretation and implementation of ordinances; reviews existing ordinances, including the Standard Construction Specifications, and prepares recommendations for updates; approves grading permits and Development Permits.
Assists with reviewing plans and hydrology studies for conformance with local, state and federal regulations,
Performs technical tasks to support a variety of department functions; conducts site reviews to ensure compliance with design plans; oversees the filing of all required county and state engineering reports. Coordinates the preparation and submittal of the annual NPDES storm water report to EPD.

Qualifications/Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field with six years of experience in engineering design and construction management; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Professional Engineer License in the State of Georgia is preferred.

Job Title

County Clerk

Position Summary

This position is the official custodian of records for all actions taken by the Board of Commissioners. Responsibilities include preparing and publishing agendas, preparing minutes and the informational notebooks for the board meetings, distributing the board actions to the constitutional officers and department heads, and maintenance of the records. The County Clerk is also the official custodian of County contracts, leases, resolutions and ordinances.

Typical Duties
  • Prepare, then distribute the agendas and attend all Commission Board meetings.
  • Prepare informational notebooks for the Commissioners, County Manager, and County Attorney and media packets for the press. Also, make copies of the agendas to be distributed to the public at the meetings.
  • Obtain signatures on all official documents and distribute to the appropriate personnel.
  • Record minutes of the Board meetings, prepare minutes and distribute draft to the Commissioners, County Manager and County Attorney.
  • Provide the approved minutes to Department Heads, Constitutional Officers, and anyone else who requests them.
  • Provide requested information regarding records of the Board of Commissioners as part of public records.
  • Ensure that all County ordinances are codified in a timely manner as required by State law. Assure compliance with current Open Meetings/Open Records Act.
  • Ascertain training schedules for County Commissioners, scheduling for same and maintain files to confirm that Commissioners have completed State required training courses/hours.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Skills
    Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in government administration, business or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Five years of increasingly responsible experience in government, preferably with clerk experience and three years of supervisory experience.
  • Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills is acceptable.
    Certificates, Licenses & Registrations:
  • Certification as a Certified County Clerk with the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia and Carl Vinson Institute of Government.
    Required Knowledge & Skills:
  • Thorough knowledge of County ordinances.
  • Thorough knowledge of governmental functions on the local, state, and federal level.
  • Considerable knowledge of management principles and supervisory practices.
  • Considerable knowledge of recordkeeping and filing techniques.
  • Good knowledge of computers and related software applications.
  • Good knowledge of Business English.
  • Ability to plan, direct, and supervise the work of subordinate personnel.
  • Ability to enforce departmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate reports and records.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the general public
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing.
    Other Requirements:
  • College level courses in English and English composition.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for performing a variety of building and grounds maintenance duties.

Deputy Clerk of Superior Court

Position Summary

Position prepares cases, subpoenas, and notices for court. Must have the ability to meet and work well in a courtroom setting as well as the public.

Qualifications/Skills

Job Title

Detention Officer - Ware County Jail

Position Summary

This position is responsible for maintaining a secure detention facility and the safe custody of inmates. The Detention Officer performs a variety of technical and administrative tasks associated with facility operations and the incarceration of detainees.
