Ware County Community Emergency Response Team Training

Date: 10/2/2010
Author: Perry M. Blackburn
Origin: Perry M. Blackburn, CERT Coordinator

The Ware County Emergency Management Agency held a twenty-hour Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) course for the citizens of Ware County. The two ten-hour classes were held at the Ware County Public Safety Administration Facility on October 2 and October 9, 2010. The CERT training educated the students about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trained them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.

Using the training learned in the classroom and during the exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when 911 professional responders are not immediately available to help. The CERT members will also support their local emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.

Those that took the training were Leah Brown, Taressa Crawford, David Gerson, Deena King, Linda Kirkland, Richard Kirkland and Karen Lee. The instructors were Perry Blackburn, Jimmy Branch, Janice Bennett and Linda Hood.
